Summary

A commemorative print published after the inauguration of President James K. Polk. The design incorporates oval bust portraits of the eleven Presidents arranged in an oval with Washington in the center and Polk at the bottom. Washington's portrait is adorned with flags and military trophies and surrounded by medallions with the arms of twenty-six states. At the top-center of the lower half are listings of dates of birth, inauguration, retirement, and, when applicable, dates of death, for each President. In the corners of the print are female figures personifying (clockwise from upper left): Peace and Plenty, Industry and Prosperity (a woman scattering coins), Liberty, and Justice. Throughout, the entire image is an ornamental scrollwork of floral and acanthus design. The lithograph was printed in two sections, an upper and a lower half, on two sheets of paper.
