Summary
Print shows officers in the foreground standing near trees and bushes observing an explosion on the upper right, possibly at the Confederate Fort Hill, during a bombardment of the Union encampment and earthworks outside Vicksburg, Mississippi, with other Confederate earthworks along a ridge in the background. On the left center is "C. Battery Archer, consisting of two heavy siege guns", at center is "E. 12th Wisconsin Battery", and on the right center is "F. 6th Wisconsin Battery". Major features are identified by letter with a corresponding "Description of the Position" printed across the bottom.
Caption continues: Representing the position of the Seventh Division of Maj. Gen. J. B. McPherson's Army Corps. Seventh Division, Seventeenth Army Corps. During part of the night of the 25th of June the 17th Iowa and the 56th Illinois occupied the Sap and partial Breach made by Logan's Division, with a loss of 54 men.
