1987 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Honorable Mention
Significance: Hotel E, located at the southwest corner of Thomas Jefferson's "academical village," the University of Virginia, was completed and ready for use by 1822. The design is characteristic of Jefferson's interpretation of Roman classicism which subsequently had a profound influence on southern architecture.
