description

Summary

Significance: Facility 17 started as two Quonset huts, a common World War II building type. This, however, is a slight variation on the standard form, with 3'-0" concrete base walls. The building's significance is mostly due to its association with the history of the intelligence center that supported Admiral Charles Nimitz, the Commander in Chief, Pacific during World War II. The intelligence organizations housed in this and adjacent buildings were critical in helping the Allies win the war.
