U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, Laundry, Marine Barracks area, South Avenue between Seventh Street & Fuller Way, Pearl City, Honolulu County, HI

Significance: Due to the crucial role it played in the Nation's defense during the twentieth century and the calamitous events which occurred on December 7, 1941, the Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was designated as a National Historic Landmark. Building 227 is classified as a Category 3 facility, and determined to be of minor importance to the historical character of the National Historic Landmark. Built on the fifty acres that made-up the Marine Barracks area, this building was designed and constructed as a laundry for the U.S. Marines Corps stationed at Pearl Harbor. Although not constructed until after the 1941 attack, this building was part of the military presence in Pearl Harbor and a necessary part of the basic daily operation of the U.S. Marine contingent stationed in Pearl Harbor.
