U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, Pump House, Lower Tank Farm, South Avenue, Pearl City, Honolulu County, HI

description

Summary

Significance: The Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1964, due to the crucial role it played in the Nation's defense during the twentieth century and the calamitous events which occurred on December 7, 1941. As a Category 3 facility, Building 76 was determined to be of minor importance to the historical character of the National Historic Landmark. Building 76 and its pumping equipment transferred fuel to power plants to generate electricity, compressed air, and water. Located within Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, this building escaped the 1941 attack and continued to pump fuel to the power plants, thereby keeping the shipyard operational to perform ship repairs.
