View of Gen Stannards Head Quarters

description

Summary

Title inscribed on verso.
Inscribed below title on verso: This is one of the most delightful places in the Army although it is only a few hundred yards from the enemies front and a considerable distance in advance of Gen Smiths Head Quarters. It is situated in a small ravine as shewn in the sketch with a small brook running at each end completely out of the dust & cool in the hottest days. The birds build their nests in the trees above the tents and the squirrels play fearlessly around the quarters while the enemies and our own shot & whistle above their heads. Gen Stannard commands the First Division 18th Army Corps.
