View of Lake Marie in Wyoming's Snowy Range, between Saratoga and Laramie

description

Summary

Title, date and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.
It's June, but there are still remnants of the substance that gives the range its name. Buried under many feet of snow each winter, the road past the lake is often closed. Lake Marie is named after Mary Bellamy, who was the first woman elected to the Wyoming State Legislature in 1910. Her husband, Charles Bellamy, a surveyor, surveyed the area in 1879 and named the lake (with a French twist) in his wife's honor.
Gift; Carol M. Highsmith Photography, Inc.; 2017; (DLC/PP-2002:038-13).
