Waikele Canal Bridge and Highway Overpass, Farrington Highway and Waikele Stream, Waipahu, Honolulu County, HI
Summary
STORED ON SITE. mchr
Significance: The Waikele Canal Bridge and Highway Overpass above the former railroad right-of-way of the Oahu Railway & Land Co. (hereafter caleed the OR&L Bridge) are significant for their contribution to the development of an effective road transportation system on Oahu, as part of the Farrington Highway segment of Oahu's belt road system. The bridges facilitated passage along Farrington Highway, which speeded travel by providing an alternative and shorter route to the nineteenth-century government road through the town of Waipahu.
