Walnut-Dollison Historic District, H. M. Smith House, 809 East Walnut Street, Springfield, Greene County, MO
Summary
Significance: Built in 1904 by Harry M. Smith, cashier at the Farmers' and Marchants' Bank, this two-story frame house has remained in family hands since. The building combines the asymmetrical massing of the late Victorian period with neoclassical detailing in a stylistic expression best described as transitional. It is one of the better preserved town houses built along East Walnut Street for the upper-middle class around the turn of the century - one of the nicer homes remaining in the study area.
