Summary
Significance: The building has served as the commandant's quarters since its construction in 1841. It is the earliest of five residences built at the north end of the arsenal during the 19th century to house the installation's highest ranking officers. Its residents include author Stephen Vincent Benet who wrote much of his first novel, The Beginning of Wisdom, while living in the house during his father's tenure as commandant of the arsenal.
