Summary
Significance: A resort complex centered around mineral springs, White Sulphur Springs has attracted visitors since before 1800. A variety of extant structures document the resort's history as a popular vacation spot for the Southern aristocracy and for several Presidents. The complex has continued in use as a spa despite occupation during the Civil War and use in WWII as an internment center and hospital.
