Woody Allen Road Bridge, Spanning Oothalooga Creek at County Road 316, Adairsville, Bartow County, GA

description

Summary

Significance: Woody Allen Road Bridge is a pin-connected Pratt half-hip pony truss, the only such bridge recorded in Bartow County. It is one of seventy-three Pratt truss bridges recorded in the Georgia Historic Bridge Survey, twelve of which are Pratt (half-hip) pony trusses. This bridge possesses a bridge name plate identifying the county officers at the time of construction. However, all records prior to 1927 kept in the Bartow County Courthouse were lost in a fire during that year. It is known that A.G. White, who served as chairman of the County Commission at the time the bridge was constructed, died in 1919. No other information regarding the county officers has been located.
Survey number: HAER GA-66
