Dances and singing take up most of the leisure in the evening. Homer Smith, tenor of the noted radio Southernaires Quartet, is director of the Manhattan Beach Choral Society, composed of white and colored enlistees. He is shown rehearsing part of his group. Also shown is James O. Lewis, another well-known Negro entertainer, who has charge of dancing and entertainment for the Negro personnel at Manhattan Beach

Jones holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the Chicago Law School. He is on headquarters staff at Manhattan Beach and is an instructor in navigation and seamanship to all recruits

Rewarded for courage. Washington, D.C., May 12. Lieut. C.B. Olson (right) United States Coast Guard, receiving from Secretary of the Treasury Morgenthau today the distinguished Flying Cross, The first to be awarded to a Coast Guard Aviator. Lieut. Olson was awarded the cross in recognition of a flight in storm and darkness he made 300 miles to sea from the Miami, Fla. air station to n army transport and returning safely with an army officer in desperate need of an operation. F.B.I. headquarters well guarded. Washington, D.C., Aug 4. The most carefully guarded center of interest in the Capitol is the Department of Justice, home of the "G" Men. Well trained guards protect records, personnel, and the building against all intruders. In this picture, Officer William L. Good is shown at the "Patrol Board" in the Captain of the Guard's office which maintains direct communication with every watch station and substation throughout the huge building. Every guard patrolling the miles of corridors carries as a part of his regular equipment a plug-in telephone with which he can communicate with headquarters at a minute's notice, 8/4/37
