The good father Delaere of Ypres left who gathered this flock of War Orphans about him in 1915 and founded a Belgian Orphanage at Wisques in the Pas-de-Calais. The school is about to move to St. Andres les Bruges. Father Delaere writes that he has received invaluable aid from the American Red Cross is maintaining his orphanage and appeals to America's generosity for its continuance in the name of these parentless children

At Sascut, Roumania. The American Red Cross has established an orphanage. These children did not know what it was to play until the Red Cross workers taught them some American games. Now they gather on the hillside near the Orphanage everyday, go through the drill of Calisthenics and play for an hour. Most of them are War Orphans

Lutheran Orphanage, Salem, Va.

Strong Hearts for Greater Serbia. These are the older boys and girls in the American Red Cross orphanage at Belgrade at their calisthenics. The younger children are lined up along the side waiting their turn. These war orphans were picked up on the streets with ragged clothes and more ragged prospects. But these exercises, good food, and Red Cross nurses, are doing wonders for the children. They are all taught trades, in additions to their regular school studies, and when they are old enough to leave the orphanage they can easily support themselves

The Happiest Girl in Serbia. She was chosen to represent Uncle Sam in a patriotic spectacle in the American Red Cross orphanage at Belgrade lately. Uncle Sam is a sort of fairy godfather to the 300 Serbian war orphans in this home, because he typifies to them the American spirit. Before this orphanage was opened, these children were just roaming about the country, without homes and without hope. In the orphanage they not only are well fed, well dressed, and well cared for but attend classes, and will be qualified to make their own living when they leave

The Envied Bandage. 'Give me a bite of our apple and I will show you my sore toe' is the attitude of many of the little war orphans cared for by the Junior Red Cross of America in the orphanage at Podgiritza, Montinegro. So unacustomed are the little waifs to tender motherly care that they quite delight in being wrapped and bandaged. Miss Mohoney, of Melrose Park, Ill., nurse in the school orphanage is seen here binding the sore thumb of tiny Vujadin while his little playmate waches with jealous envy wishing he was to have a like bandage and distiction
