This RC outpost is only three miles behind the new lines in the St. Mihiel salient. It was formerly a German motion picture hall, as the sign over the doorway above the Red Cross sign indicates. 150 German prisoners were taken from it the American advance. The doughboys are now playing the German piano imported from Metz and the Red Cross is preparing to operate the motion picture machine found in the place. More than ten thousand men are fed and given comforts at this place every day. The doughboys in the picture were caught by the camera as they emerged from the place with cigarettes, chocolate and magazine

Paris. Interior of the American Red Cross Reconditioning Department at 81 Rue St. Didier, Paris. This is a most interesting phase of Red Cross work. Nothing is ever wasted. When merchandise has become damaged by water, or other causes, and are unfit for use, it is sent to these rooms and the aritcles are immediately gone over and cleaned, washed, resewn and repacked. Thousands of dollars worth of goods have been saved from wreckage in this manner. The personnel is entirely made up of French women, who have become expert in this form of salvage work. They are shown here working on towels and bed linen

Where fathers bill are light because women's styles never change. Every Saturday this colorful scene is enacted at Tetevo in Serbia near the Grecian borded. It is market day and at three different public squares in the city there are markets selling women's goods, cattle and this is the women's market. Note the similarity in dress of all the women in the picture. Balkan women don't have to bother about individual dress designs or changes in style. Each village or district has its own original design of dress for women and the women wear it although it was designed a hundred years ago. This particular town adopted a dark red and white striped skirt of coarse wool with a jacket or waist of white material loosely belted and ornamented with deep red embroidery down the sleeves and the front. Even when they receive American clothes from the Red Cross they make their dress conform as much as possible to the village costume. The house in the background is worthy of mention in as much as it is typical of the country which up until a few years ago was under Turkish rule. The front is of white plaster painted with various Turkish designs and colors. Note the grilled windows, the sign of a harems abode
