In connection with the program of the A.A.A. to divert surplus cotton from the normal channels of trade for the purpose of developing new commercial uses for cotton and cotton materials, apiculturists of the Dept. of Agriculture at the Beltsville, MD. experimental station are testing the use of cotton fabric as a protective covering for the hives of bees. The hive coverings are designed to protect the bees from cold during the winter hibernation period. Dr. W.J. Formerly the packing for double decked hives was sawdust and TA(?) paper, now these cold-blooded insects can huddle under overcoats consisting of double blankets, with an added canvas cover.
