The automobile industry is watching these tests carefully as a possible indication of the kind of brake lining to use to reduce the number of deaths on highways, which numbered 33,980 in 1934, 10/4/35

New machine to test brake linings designed by Bureau of Standards. Washington, D.C., March 16. A new machine, both in design and operations, has been installed at the National Bureau of Standards for the testing of brake linings. The machine permits the study of brake linings under conditions closely approaching those of actual sevice and yet which can be accurately controlled.
