A crippled French soldier wearing the Croix de Guerre and the Medaille Militaire won by his heroism at the Somme helps to care for the children at Grand Val. This is a large estate near Paris where refugee children who are delicate and need a country life are sent from St. Sulpice in Paris where they are received on being driven from their homes. The American Red Cross sends doctors and nurses to take care of these children whose improvement in healthy surroundings is remarkable

For the Sins of Their Fathers. When the German and Austrian armies of occupation evacuated Albania, they left behind quite a few illegitimate children. These unfortunate youngsters were looked upon as outcasts by the stern moral people of the country. Many were homeless and had no one to care for them. But when the American Red Cross came to the relief of the country, all this was changed. The Americans established an orphanage and school for these little outcasts, and now the youngsters who were forbidden to play with these children look on with envy as they see the care they are receiving. This shows a group of these little chaps marching out of the playground. Miss Leonia Nathan of New York City, (in white) their teacher, can be seen at the right
