Radio waves high flyers, Washington, D.C., Oct. 1. Experiments conducted by H.W. Wellex at the radio station of the Carnegie Institution have proven that radio waves travel a distance of 80 miles heavenword before they are reflected back to earth. Traveling like lightning as they ascend in to the ionosphere the radio impulses have to be measured in 10,000ths of second to accurately check the height reached before they return to the radio set
Dangerous spot. Washington, D.C., Dec. 18. Dr. L.H. Adams, Director of the Geological Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution, is standing in what might be a dangerous position should the little steel drum in the cabinet [next to] him explode. In this apparatus the scientists study the behavior and properties of artificial rock under tremendous pressure, a pressure greater than that generated in the breech of the cannon. From these studies is learned something of the behavior of rocks at great depths, 12/18/37
