The "water company" was formed by the people in abandoned mining town of Jere, West Virginia, after the coal company cut off all public services because they were abandoning the mine. The coal company used to charge one dollar and twenty-cove cents per month for water. The present "people's" water company charges its members twenty-five cents per month and makes money at that even when everyone can't pay dues. There are dividends of flour, sugar, lard, etc. The lock is necessary to keep people from other camps from stealing the water, which is very scarce. It's still necessary to change the lock about every four months

New Chief Usher named for White House Washington, D.C., April 4. For the second time in more than 30 years a new chief usher for the White House was appointed by President Roosevelt today. He is Howell G. Crim, who succeeds Raymond Muir just named Assistant to the Chief of the International Conference Division. Muir was named to the chief usher's post a few years ago upon the death of Irwin "Ike" Hoover, a White House employee for over 40 years. Bits and pieces display. Parts needed by U.S. Maritime Commission being inspected at the first OPM (Office of Personnel Management) permanent exhibit at which samples of needed defense equipment and parts are shown to prospective producers. The exhibit opened on Tuesday, December 23 in the Boatman's Bank Building in St. Louis, Missouri. Bits and pieces of needed war goods were exhibited by fourty-eight holders of large war contracts and by the Army, the Navy, and the U.S. Maritime Commission. It is planned to change the articles displayed in this exhibit as some of them become under contracts or subcontracts. Representatives of the Contract Distribution Division will be available regularly to advise manufacturers attending the exhibits. Similar exhibits are scheduled to open shortly in other cities throughout the country

Appearing before the Senate Committee considering President Roosevelt's Government Reorganization Program, Col. W.B. Greely former Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, gave warning today that powers granted in the bill might mean the Forest Service "would be dismembered like Poland, scattered to the four winds or abolished altogether". He also charged that the proposal to change the name of the Interior Department to the Department of Conservation was a plan to transfer the Forest Service out of the Department of Agriculture to the Interior Department, 8/3/37
