Find children ragged, undernourished. Perhaps the greatest calamity to be found among the destitute populations of central and Eastern Europe is the starvation among the children. Investigators who have been sent out by the American Red Cross report that the coming generation are in an alarming physical condition, a large percentage of the children being deformed from lack of sufficient nutrition. A determined effort has been commenced by these relief workers to better the condition of these children. They are being fed with food sent from America. Clothes are also supplied to the children who for several years have been clad in little else than rags such as the child in the picture is wearing

Mind your own knitting. These little girls of Ypres, who belong to the Junior Red Cross of America school, sat up nights over their knitting when they received a shipment of American yarn. They made sweaters, mufflers, caps, sox and stockings, not only for themselves but for other and younger children. In this war torn region girls young in years seem old with hardships and bitter experiences. In their noisy wooden shoes they clatter around doing hard tiresome work and even drudgery, always smiling and happy. "La guerre est fini" and that is the thought that brightens their hapless lives

Poland's nameless children. Ten typical Polish orphans selected at random from a refugee camp sheltering 20,000 near Warsaw. Clothing and food distributed by the American Red Cross has considerably changed their appearance. The closely cropped hair of the boys shows that their heads were subjected to the usual delousing process that all these children undergo before they can be sent on to various Red Cross orphanages, and allowed to mingle with other children. Some of these children lost their parents at so young an age that they do not even know their true names. Capt. Lyman E. Kane of East Cambridge, New Jersey, is hilding a pretty girl of a distinct Polish type. The youngster down front in a fur trimmed cap is endeavoring to strike a military attitude in keeping wi the presence of an "Amerykanski" officer
