Ayers, New York economist and formerly on the staff of the Consumers' Advisory Board of the defunct NRA, brought in three packages of tea and 21 cans of tomato juice to show the temporary economic committee today, and told members that deceptive sizes of cans and packages and lack of quality gradings cause housewives a good deal of shopping headache. She said that she bought all the food at retail stores yesterday, found 11 different brands and 17 sizes of tomato juice cans, with no way to determine quality except to try them all. Chesapeake and Ohio to get control of Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad. Washington, D.C., May 14. Carroll M. Shanks, Chairman of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad Mortgage Bondholders Protective Committee, told the Senate Railroad Financing Committee today that the proposed reorganization plan for the C.&E.I now pending on federal courts would give the control to the Chesapeake and Ohio. The Senate Committee has been investigating the $700,000 load procured by the C.&E.I from the Midland Bank of Cleveland. Later testimony brought out at the hearing proved that the Chesapeake and Ohio actually made the loan with the bank acting as the road's agent, 5/14/1937
