[Heyl?], Chief of the Sound Section of the United States Bureau of Standards, with the first successful experimental model of the earth inductor compass, which they developed for the Army Air Corps and for which they were awarded the Magellan Gold Medal by the American Philosophical Society. It was a model of this same compass that Capt. Charles Lindbergh used on his epochal flight from New York to Paris
