John Gannon (14 years old) 104 Cherry St. John cannot secure an employment certificate because he lacks weight and cannot pass the physical test; he is also under sized for his age; has passed the school requirements. Mother is a widow, does day's work and earns $3 a week. Mary, oldest daughter, fields envelopes at $4 a week. Two children in the orphan asylum. Mother struggling hard to get office cleaning, so that she may take the children out and have a home of her own, as at present they are lodging with friends. We are giving a scholarship to John. Tily, president of the Strawbridge and Clothier Co., of Philadelphia, who told the Senate Committee Investigating Profit Sharing that the only practical system of profit sharing lay in 'a fat pay envelope.' He attacked federal tax systems saying that government costs are hurting and killing business. He later remarked that the Republican party had a few honest members, to which Senator Arthur Vandenberg retorted, 'That is shown by the Pennsylvania election returns'

Publishing head proposes plan to senate for absorbing bulk of 11,000,000 unemployed. Washington, D.C., Nov. 22. Head of the Curtis Publishing Co. Walter D. Fuller, to proposed to a Senate Finance Subcommittee a system of incentive taxation to enable industry to absorb the bulk of the 11,000,000 unemployed. When asked by the committee if he believed 'if we poured it in at the top it will trickle down to the bottom where it is needed' Fuller answered 'that the important thing to do for the workmen of this country is to get them back to work and then put as much as possible in their pay envelopes'
