Peddled tear gas, Washington, D.C., Sept. 24. Called to the stand today before the Senate Committee investigating espionage in labor relations, E.E. McGuffin, Youngstown, Ohio, President of the National Corporations Service, admitted he received a commission of $373.60 from the Lake Erie Chemical Co., for assisting in gas sales during a Terre Haute, Ind. strike. Before establishing the National Corporation Service, McGuffin was an employee of the Railway Audit and Inspection Co.

"Chowderhead" in spotlight. Washington, D.C. Sept. 23. A highlight at today's hearing of the Senate Civil Liberties Committee investigating espionage in labor relations was furnished by S. Cohen, alias "Chowderhead," who testified he had been in the strikebreaking business for 20 years. After admitting that he would work for any agency that would pay his price, Cohen further testified that he "bossed the job during the New York elevator strike and since then has been on the Remington-Rand strike in Connecticut. Cohen's police record, introduced into the proceedings, showed 14 arrests and five convictions including punishment for receiving stolen goods and grand larceny

In spotlight at Labor Espionage Investigation. Washington D.C. E.C. Davidson (left), Secretary of the International Association of Machinists and Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia, who told the Senate Civil Liberties Committee today that the Pinkerton Detective Agency sought to sell it's service to the Committee to Investigate Other Labor Espionage Agencies. Davidson also said that Samuel X. Brady, of Pinkerton Agency, had contacted him (Davidson) in regard to acting as a go between. In the center is William D. Whitney, Councel for the Pinkerton's, who informed the committee that his agency would refuse to disclose the requested names of undercover agents. On the right is Robert F. Pinkerton ace quizzed by Senate Investigators. Washington, D.C. After hearing testimony that the Pinkerton Detective Agency sought to sell Its service to the LaFollette Civil Liberties Committee to investigate other labor espionage agencies, Samuel X. Brady, Chief of the Cincinnati office of the Pinkerton's, was questioned about the part he played in the negotiations. E.C. Davidson, Secretary of the International Association of Machinists and also Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia, charged that Brady had contacted him last summer with the request that the Mayor act as go between. McDade, appeared before the Senate Committee investigating espionage in labor relations today and told how guards used live steam on striking workers, also of the time when a fence was charged with electricity and other terroristic methods used to place blame on labor leaders to result in increasing the "guard" forces. McDade said he had been in the employ of the Railway Audit and Inspection Co. on several jobs

Pushed sale of implements of industrial warfare, Washington, D.C. Sept. 24. Questioned by the Senate Committee investigating espionage in labor relations today, A.F. Ailes, executive of the Lake Erie Chemical Co., told of an inteensive drive that was made to sell implements of industrial warfare shortly after the C.I.O. began its campaign to unionize the steel industry. Ailes admitted he took part in a demonstration tear and nauseating gases last July for officials of the Pennsylvania Railway, Jones and Laughlin Steel Co., Erie Railroad, Westinghouse Electric Co., and the Carnegie Steel Co., but he said no sales resulted
