Nothing wrong with these shelves. Shelves like these may be built in a well-ventilated cellar, cave, or closet where it is cool, but not cold enough to freeze, and where there is no strong light. They are wide enough, they are built of strong boards, and they are braced with sturdy supports. One hundred feet of twelve-inch shelving will hold five hundred jars. Notice the orderly arrangement of jars. All foods of one kind are together

Bantam, Connecticut. Much of the food that is served in Bantam homes is bought at the local First National Store, part of New England's leading food chain. Manager Charley Dempsey, who admits that he sometimes takes off his hat when sleeping, hopes soon to get a larger store with a full line of meats, but is worried about the difficulty in getting meat cases. He's very pleased about the increase in his business, which has meant larger weekly checks for him, and has increased his staff from one boy part-time two years ago to three full-time and one part-time now. He looks for an even greater volume when the second forty units of the new housing project are completed. Charley, who was in the Army during the last war, and all his employees are natives of Bantam. The main difference rising food prices have meant to Bantam housewives, says Dempsey, is that whereas they used to order without bothering to ask the price, they now ask the price, then say what they want

A poster comes to life."This reminds me of home," said Sergeant Vineyard as he downed a forkful of Mrs. Woolslayer's devil's food cake. When Mrs. Woolslayer said "I'd like you to try a piece of my cake," the welder and the Army Sergeant forgot all about the war and fighting and production, and embarked on a Sunday afternoon gossip session the like of which you'll find in Iowa, Kentucky, Oregon or Vermont. As American as baseball, the Sunday afternoon visit is a friendly and democratic means of relaxation, common to soldier, worker, bank president and schoolchild alike. Proudly sitting next to Sergeant Vineyard is Georgia Ann Woolslayer, eight. Allegheny-Steel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
