General Pershing gets first American Legion poppy. The American Legion poppy drive was officially opened in Washington today when General John J. Pershing received a buddy poppy from Mrs. Louise W. Williams, a national president of the American Legion Auxiliary. The poppies are made each year by disabled World War veterans in various hospitals and sold to aide the American Legion in their many charitable enterprises. 3/19/32

Taps sound for famous general. An impressive military funeral marked the last rites for General Tasker N. Bliss, war-time Chief of Staff, held at Arlington National Cemetary Wednesday. The photograph show the pallbearers nearing the grave with the casket. In the background can be seen General John J. Pershing and General Charles P. Summerall, present Chief of Staff. The grave of the distinguished soldier-statesman is situated between those of former President Taft and Robert Todd Lincoln. 11/12/30
