Chickamauga Dam and powerhouse. Hall off reception room which gives access to a good view of the tailrace through a window, thus making it possible for visitors to observe all essential parts of the project (generator hall, switchyard, reservoir, tailrace) from either the reception room or the hall. It also gives access to the elevator, the main stair, toilets, and to a promenade roof deck over the lower electrical bay of the powerhouse (foor at end). The decreasing height of the ceiling was necessitated by structural considerations ad was exploited for effect. Floor is terrazzo; walls, glazed structural tile; ceiling, plaster

Chattanooga, Tenn. 1940-1942? A view of the visitors' reception room which contains the reception desk and the entrance to the elevator and to the stairs. The map in mural form over the reception desk is used by the guard in explaining the location and the signigicance of the Tennessee Valley Authority Project. The switchyard can be seen through the glazed doors of the vestibule; on the opposite side, the entire wall under the dedication (1936-Built for the People of the United States of America-1940) is glass and opens a view of the generator hall to the visitors

Guntersville Dam and powerhouse. Generator hall. Roof is supported by trusses with arched bottom chords, concealed by ceiling made up of asbestos boards on steel furring. Ceiling also serves as insulation and plenum chamber and permits recessing of highbay reflectors which are louvered at bottom to eliminate glare. These reflectors furnish the main working light and throw the generators upon which they are concentrated into strong relief; general illumination of the space comes from indirect  reflectors concealed behind the crane relief and turned towards the ceiling. Floor is ceramic tile; wall, glazed structural tile up to ceiling, but of lighter color above crane rail

Power and conservation. Chickamauga Dam, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Generator hall of the powerhouse at the TVA's Chickamauga Dam. The dam, located near Chattanooga, 471 miles above the mouth of the Tennessee River, has an authorized power installation of 81,000 kilowatts, which can be increased to a possible ultimate of 108,000 kilowatts. The reservoir at the dam adds 377,000 acre feet of water to controlled storage on the Tennessee River system. The power that goes out over its 154,000 volt transmission line serves many useful domestic, agricultural and industrial uses
