A poster comes to life. "I've been waitin' for this moment," said George Woolslayer, as he shook hands with his poster-model colleagues, Sergeant Vineyard and Chief Evans, "and I'm mighty proud." Although Woolslayer was somewhat more voluble than his service friends, all of the men admitted to being thrilled at the meeting. None had met before. It was the soldier's and sailor's first visit to a steel mill and they watched the operation with interest and laid down a continuous barrage of questions. Working on a rush order, Woolslayer was not able to leave his job to meet the other two at the station as had been originally planned. Introducing the men is Robert Foster (second from left). A poster comes to life. The middle man in the poster looks at his image mounted on a wall at Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporation, wonders what the other two fellows are like, and where they are these days. George Woolslayer, thirty-two-year-old welder, was chosen as a model for this poster when an Office of War Information photographer visited the plant in the fall of 1941. His interest in the soldier and sailor prompted him to write OWI (Office of War Information) asking for information on the servicemen. Result: furloughs wer obtained for the two, who came to the steel mill and saw that "Men Working Together" is the formula by which American soldiers, sailors and workers will win this war. Manpower. Former actress now aircraft worker. From central casting to aircraft casting! Erstwhile child star of the silent picture days, auburn-haired Dorothy Langdon now inspects airplane engine parts in a Detroit war plant. Known as "Baby Dorothy Phelps" of the silents, and heart interest of western thrillers in the middle thirties, Miss Langdon joined America's army of women war workers early this year. With a husband in the Army, the twenty-six-year-old beauty finds her new role in life eminently satisfying. "I'm really doing something," she says. "I got tired of just playing at doing something." In addition to her forty-eight hour work week at the inspection table, Miss Langdon still finds time to study drafting at night

Native Texas tenant farmer. Near Goodliet, Texas. Aged seventy; seventeen years on the same farm. Is to be "tractored out" at the end of 1938. One son has been tractored out and has been on WPA (Work Projects Administration) for two years. Another son was tractored out in 1937. Has moved to town and remains temporarily off relief by selling his livestock. "What are my boys going to do? It's not a question of what they're going to do. It's a question of what they're going to have to do. They're not any up there in Congress but what are big landowners and they're going to see that the program is in their interest. As long as the government is paying the landowner more to let the land out than they make by renting it, they won't rent it."

"Beats the Arctic ice and snow" so said Mr. Polar Bear at the Washington Zoo, when the "Better Ole" club orchestra, assisted by Dolly Daye, dancer, tried their wildest notes and dances in front of Bruno's cage. True to form, Mrs. Bruno developed a streak of jealousy and refused to watch the performance. Music may "soothe the savage beast" but Bruno's chief interest was centered on the little lady ...
