Brazilian Ambassador tries hand at cranking "Lizzie." Washington, D.C., Oct. 29. After hearing the experiences and hardships of the three Brazilian engineers, who finally arrived in the Capital today after a nine-year motor journey from Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian Ambassador Oswaldo Aranha tried his hand at cranking one of the original "flivvers" which survived the arduous trip. Traveling 15,000 miles through 14 countries, the expedition was made in the interest of an international highway between North and South America. In the photograph, left to right: Dr. Leo S. Cup to winner of marathon. Washington, D.C. June 12. Winner of the sixth annual Evening Star Marathon for the National A.A.U. Championship today, Mel Porter of the Millrose A.A. of New York is presented with a bronze trophy by Dr. Leo S. Rowe, Director of the Pan-American Union. A field of the fastest marathon runners in the western hemisphere participated in the race which started at Mt. Vernon, Virginia and finished at the zero milestone in Potomac Park. Porters time for the distance was 2 hours and 43 minutes.
