Chickamauga Dam and powerhouse. Land side entrance to Chickamauga Powerhouse. Visitors and employees enter from the parking space which corresponds to the top level of the generating plant. Once inside, the almost continuous glass wall between the reception room and the generating hall gives the magnificent view of generators deep below. Signs in front are temporary, prohibiting access for the duration of the war. Note gantry cranes at right which operate spillway gates and are also used for the transfer of heavy equipment parts from rail, barge, or truck to the powerhouse

Where the water level is so near the surface that you cannot dig a cave, you will have to build your storage house aboveground. This one is made of poles, and covered with straw, leaves and dirt. Grass should be planted on top of the dirt to keep the earth from washing away. The front wall must be made double thickness, with sawdust or other insulating material between to prevent freezing in winter and to keep cool in summer. Take notice that there is a lock on the door
