Lives, 108 Fourth St., N.E., and Earle Griffith (15 yrs. old), 107 Fifteenth St., N.W., Washington, D.C. From a questionable home. Mother eloped with boarder. Took children with her. They said they never know when they were going to get home at night. Usually work one or more nights a week, and have worked until after midnight. They said last Christmas their office had a 9 yr. old boy running errands for them, and that he made a great deal of money from tips. They make about $7 a week and more, sometimes. Said "The office is not allowed to send us into the red light district, but we go when a call sends us. Not very often."  Location: Washington (D.C.), District of Columbia.

Durward Nickerson, Western Union messenger #55. One of the by-products of messenger work. Lives in Bessemer, R.F.D. #1. Saturday night, September 26, 1914, he took investigator through the old Red Light on Ave. A, pointed out the various resorts, told him about the inmates he has known there. Only a half dozen of them were open now, and those very quietly. Durward has put in 2 years in the messenger work and shows the result of temptations open to him. He has recently returned from a hobo trip through 25 states. He was not inclined to tell much about the shady side of messenger work, but one could easily see that he has been through much that he might have avoided in a profitable kind of work. 18 years old. In 1913 parents refused to let child be committed to Wrentham, Massachusetts. In 1916 father came to office asking that boy be committed as he spent all his time on the dumps. Deficient mentality. Neck covered with scars and boils. "No work - no school" since 1912. Never cleans up. Doesn't go home to meals. Eats from dump and steals from dinner pails. Hard for him to tell where he lives. Thought 92 Oak Grove Ave. Was in baby grade at Ruggles School and was expelled. "Is father alive?" "No, he's a milkman." Fall River, Massachusetts. 6/22/16. "The Mill School" at Avondale. The mill gate is but a few feet to the right of the photo and the employees pass through the school yard continually. From all I could gather on the question, the school is only a makeshift, because the mill children go here only the eight weeks of the year to comply with the law. Attendance is irregular. In the lowest first grade, with a child of six years, were two girls of fourteen and fifteen who had been to school but two weeks in their lives. (See photo and label 1742A. Also photo 1743A.) Memorial to Army and Navy Nurses unveiled in Arlington. Washington, D.C., Nov. 8. An 11 foot figure designed by Frances Rich, daughter of Irene Rich. Famous movie star was unveiled in Arlington Cemetery today by a nurse from the Army and one from the Navy, dedicated to the Army and Navy Nurses who gave their lives in line of duty, it represents a war nurse and stands about 150 feet from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, on the only plot in the cemetery reserved for women, left to right. Miss. Ida Hube, who sponsored the statue served from 1906 to 1910 as a Army Nurse; Irene Rich, mother of the designer; and Frances Rich, the designer is shown placing a wreath, 11/8/38
