Worried citizens calling the State Department these days to inquire about the safety of relatives and friends in the China danger zone are connected with Mrs. Madge Blessing, in charge of the "Welfare and Whereabouts File," Divison of Foreign Service Administration of the Department. When an inquiry comes in for information about an american in the danger zone, Mrs. Blessing makes out a card with the name of the individual about whom the inquiry was made and that of the person calling. A cable inquiry goes to the American Consul in the area. A reply back to the State Department is usually received in a couple of days, 82037

The American Navy has now its own RC hospital in London, located in the former residence of Mrs. Guest, wife of Capt. Frederick Guest M.P., Mrs. Guest before her marriage was Miss Amy Phipps of Pittsburg. The Naval Hospital is one of the finest residences in London, being located on Park Lane, Mayfair, overlooking Hyde Park. It was built by Alfred Beit, the friend and partner of Cecil Rhodes, and occupies an entire block. As a naval hospital it has about fifty beds, and provides for both officers and men. The family of Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, the World War draft dodger who fled to Germany to escape prosecution, were in the Senate Military Affairs Committee room today as Harry Weinberger, Bergdoll attorney, denounced the House approved bill designed to prevent Bergdoll from returning to the United States. At the same time Weinberger announced that Bergdoll is aboard the liner Bremen which will arrive in New York tomorrow.
