Boxing Commission ten thousand dollars as a challenge to Joe Louis for a championship bout. Tony claims Joe Louis ran out on him when he accepted a bout with John Henry Lewis instead. Supt. and overseers with the "Relief Crowd," in Yazoo City (Miss.) Yarn Mills. The Supt. said, "We relieve all children under sixteen for two hours a day except the doffers, who get plenty of time off. They go out and play." Then turning to the children he said, "Now play." They eyed him blankly, "Play wot?" "Oh, play anything." Before they could do it, however, he had to pose them himself (see photo 2106) which was especially posed for the occasion. In this photo, note the disparity between the (alleged) ages of the younger ones who said that they were 12 and 13, and the older ones, who said 15 years old. Location: Yazoo City, Mississippi.

War ration book no. 3. This new ration book, replacement for present books when their stamps are used up, will be distributed during the early summer. It contains four pages of "point" stamps, similar to the point stamps in war ration book 2, though slightly different in design and printed in brown ink. It also contains four pages of "unit" stamps for the type of rationing now used for sugar, coffee, and shoes. Each page of fourty-eight stamps bears the design of a different war machine, including guns, tanks, aircraft carriers and planes. One of each of these stamps is reproduced separately below the picture of the book. Important note: Actual dimensions of the point ration stamps are 7/8 inch x 1 inch, while the unit stamps are 7/16 inch x 1 inch. The U.S. Secret Service requests that ration stamps not be reproduced in actual size, but less than 3/4 or over 1 1/2 times. Also, stamps should not be reproduced in color. S.E.C. investigates Whitney Co. collapse. Washington, D.C., April 12. H.G. Wellington, partner in the firm of Wellington and Co. told the SEC today that his firm made a unsecured loan on a thirty day note to Richard Whitney and Co. in Sept. 1933, and that the money was not paid for four years. Wellington testified as SEC hearings on the Whitney crash started in Washington, the loan was made while Whitney was President of the New York Stock Exchange of which Wellington is a Governor, Samuel O. Refreshments served under gay umbrellas added a new note to the resources of pleasant living in this area which was notably deficient in facilities for outdoors enjoyment. The place proved a major attraction and has thousands of visitors on holidays.
