Collecting pitchers is hobby of Virginian. Arlington, Virginia, July 2. Twenty five years ago Mrs. William B. King of Arlington Virginia, started her hobby of collecting pitchers. Now she has over 300 and only two duplicates in the collections. She has pitchers from almost every state in the Union as many from foreign countries. England has contributed a fine Toby, a pitcher in the shape of a cow and another which is a souvenier of Oxford. Included in her collection are also ones from Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Africa, Belgium, Mexico, and Bermuda. Her hobby seems much more interesting when you consider that all her pitchers are used on different occasions instead of being used for decoration only, 7/2/37

Capps family at Columbia vaudeville. Baby of 21 months (been on stage for 6 months). Girl of 5 years (been on stage for 2 years). Boy of 7 years (been on stage for 1 year). Girl of 8 years (been on stage for 5 years). Boy of 12 years (been on stage for 8 years). Boy of 14 years (been on stage for 9 years). Oldest boy is acrobat, contortionist, etc. All do singing and dancing acts except baby, who appears in final scene as Charlie Chaplin. They appear 3 or 4 times a day--sometimes 7 days in the week, usually coming last on program (as a feature), which means they do not leave dressing room until nearly 11 p.m. Then, in addition, the life in cheap hotels and on the road "making new towns" is very unsettling. It was very touching to see the little ones curled up back of the scenes waiting for their act and getting 40 winks or the mother nursing the baby just before it was poked out onto the stage to do his little "turn." In spite of their stage life, their manners are good. They are quiet, well-appearing children, and the parents are kind and sympathetic. The father acts as nursemaid to the baby, and the mother dresses and changes the others and appears herself. She said: "They're never sick. It's the healthiest kind of life." The 8-year-old girl said: "I don't like it--the men in some places are so rough." There was some familiarity shown to them, but not much. Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan / Lewis W. Hine.

The 'Mosquito Boat' and eight other ones will be based at the naval operating base, Norfolk, Virginia, where they will undergo service tests under various sea conditions to determine their capabilities and limitations. This is the same type of boat that the government is in the process of releasing to the British Navy. Chairman David L. Blue shirt, blue uniform trousers with Sam Browne belt replaces the odd trousers and shirts of many colors formerly worn by the guards while on duty. A neat cap, patterned after the ones worn by the New York Coppers, tops off the new outfit. Hamilton Family, sardine works, Eastport. Father earns $15 to $25 a week irregularly during the work season for three months. Said that 20 years ago he made $5 a day as a boy, cutting. The mother is a packer makes $10 a week and upward, during the active season. Another boy, not in the photo, works also. In the front row are George Hamilton, 11 years old, who cuts regularly--made a dollar in three hours the day before; Byron, with a badly cut finger, earns 25 cents a day; little Erna 8 years old works at cartoning. The father is dissatisfied with the irregular income, but cannot see the connection between his early boyhood work and his present stagnation. He is putting his little ones through the same process. Passenger pigeon eggs at $300 a piece. Washington, D.C., Dec. 1. Since the last passenger pigeon in existence died in the Cincinnati Zoo in 1914, the eggs from the now extinct birds have become so scarce that G. Ellis Miller, of this city, is asking $300 a piece for the three perfect ones in his possession--with no takers. The eggs were left to Miller by his Grandfather from a collection made 75 years ago--when the birds flew in flocks that darkened the sun and broke branches off trees when they roosted en masse. Marjorie Beall, biology student at George Washington University, is shown studying the eggs which are kept in a display with carved birds and other eggs, 12/1/37
