Formerly a sleepy crossroads in a depressed cotton raising area, it became a center of navigation and commerce due to the construction of the reservoir. General planning. In bringing down its overall planning program to actual cases, the Authority works in intimate contact with local political institutions, and county, city, and state planning agencies, most of which owe their existence to TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) instigation. Models, designs, surveys, drafts of ordinances and legislation are developed by TVA technicians to assist in the physical replanning of the valley
