Two American soldiers fire into a Japanese dugout before entering it for inspection during the Allied offensive that ended with the capture of Buna Mission, last Japanese point of resistence in the Papuan Peninsula. The Japanese suffered severe losses before their complete defeat in fighting that began with their drive toward Port Moresby on the Southern coast of New Guinea
