Many districts in the 946 square miles of Sanilac County, Mich. have no meeting places; many people refused to attend anything resembling health meetings. To these places and people this "child welfare special" has gone, this ten-foot trailer, a small house on wheels, dressed up with a cot, a scale, a homemade refrigerator, a measuring table, a baby basket and literature and posters. Hooked on the end of a Ford coupe, it weighs 1,440 lbs. and can be easily moved with the help of a few small boys. Twenty-six baby conferences have been held around this trailer, 1,590 babies and children have been weighed and measured in it. It has appeared at picnics and fairs, in front of country stores and down the long, long country roads where literature and advice and service have been given by the Red Cross nurse

Here is a real chance for a mill to do a benevolent deed by making some recompense to this crippled boy and his paralytic father. They think it's charity to give a boy work under legal age, but when he is injured they forget that side of it. No suggestion of any kind of recompense has been heard. View of the Gorenflo Canning Co., Biloxi, Miss. Taken at 7 A.M. Many tiny workers here, some of whom began to arrive as early as 5 o'clock, and [sic] hour before they were allowed to begin work, and long before daylight on a damp, foggy day. The whistle had blown and they came and stood around merely to hold their places. When the "catch" has been good they begin work early, but today it was not good so they were waiting for daylight. In this group I ascertained the ages of a few, as follows, 1 child of 6 years, 1 of 7, 2 of 8, 1 of 10, and there were many others. See report also. Location: Biloxi, Mississippi.

To impress upon Washingtonians what they are missing ballot boxes draped in black were places on the busiest corners of downtown. Members of the District League of Women's Voters attended the boxes but instead of receiving votes they handed out information on what it means to the citizens of Washington not to be able to vote. Left to right we see--Mrs.. Karl Bradford, Mrs. R. Shull, and Mrs. Henry Chalmers, 11/8/38
