[Rep. Hamilton Fish on neutrality. Washington, D.C., Oct. 30. After the House Rules Committee Session, Rep. Hamilton Fish was interviewed by the press. He told reporters that he had no disposition to filibuster and hoped that congress would disposed of the matter by Friday night, but he said opponents wanted some rule permitting the House to decide policy on three questions: the arms embargo, loans under the cash and carry provision, and the presidential power to determine combat areas, which Fish said, was equivalent to giving him authority to name an aggressor]

White House aspirants join political rally at National Press Club. Thomas Dewey. Washington, D.C., March 1. Ten potential presidential candidates were expected to attend an off the record political rally at the National Press Club tonight. Each aspirant is expected to give a short but pithy speech on why he should not be elected president. In preparation for this bit of satire for the evening, the huge dining room of the press club was decorated with farcical caricatures. This is a sample of one of them, 3-1- 40

Defense housing, Erie, Pennsylvania. Mrs. B.J. Rogan receives deliveries of laundry, ice and grocery items from local businesses that serve the defense trailer camp twice daily. Mrs. Rogan's husband is employed by the General Electric Company as a drill press operator or defense work. Although grocery stores and milk companies deliver to the doors of the trailer town, agents, salesmen and canvassers are forbidden in the settlement. This is to see that the defense workers on the night shift may sleep during the morning or early afternoon

More than 28,000,000 tons of scrap metal is needed this year for defense production

Jalopies for defense. The press is closing in on this old auto body. Powerful hydraulic bailing presses are used to compress the sheet metal of the auto body into small compact bundles. Dante Electric Company, Bantam, Connecticut. The shop is busy, so Anna, oldest of the five Dante girls lends a hand with a drill press. Anna operates the Bantam Beauty Salon, but because she has difficulty with hot water during the winter, she closes the shop from early January through March. Her "boyfriend" (Anna says they are not engaged) works regularly at the American Brass Company in Torrington. If he puts in an eight-hour day there, he works for another four hours at the Dante Electric. Often now, however, he puts in a twelve-hour day in Torrington, and on those days does not work for Dante
