Here's an answer to the problem of transporting defense workers to outlying industrial plants: It's the new oversize bus trailer made almost entirely of non-critical materials which held its Washington premier April 13. Hauled by an ordinary one-and-a-half-ton truck tractor, it holds 141 persons, and was designed and built by the Office of Defense Transportation and War Production Board (WPB) officials with the cooperation of private companies. Weight of the trailer is 12,000 pounds as compared with 17,000 pounds for a standard type 40-passenger city bus. The complete unit is fifty-five feet long

George came to work as a spray painter, then shifted to painting British insignia on sides of ships. He sometimes amused his fellow workers by drawing faces on ships during lunch hour, and was prevailed upon to put a big drawing on a ship for a special occasion. The idea took, and now George puts a gag drawing on each ship. The paint washes off with gasoline, but overseas gossip says these ships go into combat still bearing assorted Rudy Ostriches, Donald Ducks, Porky Pigs and a host of other cartoon characters

De Land pool. Moving circus. Even circuses made way for war in Florida. When the De Land, Florida industrial pool found it lacked buildings to fulfill a million-dollar war contract, it asked the Johnny J. Jones circus to move out of its winter quarters at the county fairgrounds so that the fair's seventeen-foot buildings could be used as a war plant. Within a few weeks, war production machines of sixteen different companies pooled into one community assembly line and began pounding out weapons beneath the gay circus banners on the domed buildings in the background

Bits and pieces display. Parts needed by U.S. Maritime Commission being inspected at the first OPM (Office of Production Management) permanent exhibit at which samples of needed defense equipment and parts are shown to prospective producers. The exhibit opened on Tuesday, December 23 in the Boatmen's Bank building in Saint Louis, Missouri. Bits and pieces of needed war goods were exhibited by fourty-eight holders of large war contracts and by the Army, Navy and the U.S. Maritime Commission. It is planned to change the articles displayed in this exhibit as some of them become placed under contracts and subcontracts. Representatives of the Contract Distribution Division will be available regularly to advise manufacturers attending the exhibit. Similar routine exhibits are scheduled to open shortly in other cities throughout the country
