Chickamauga Dam and powerhouse. One of the headquarters buildings of farmers' cooperatives which distribute TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) power. With comfortable lounges, meeting rooms, and up-to-snuff shops, garages and offices, such buildings become centers of interest in the small towns in which they are located (quoted from previously written caption). Headquarters building of the rural power distribution cooperative at Shelbyville, Tennessee (see general comments under K 2382). In the design of these structures a certain degree of uniformity is observed to express the fact that they are parts of a nationwide system. The symbol REA stands for Rural Electrification Administration which by engineering, financing, and general guidance promotes rural electrical cooperatives throughout the United States and its territories. Each design is individually developed, however, from the special requirements of the organization and with attention to location and site characteristics

Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service. Pretty as her picture is this young woman in the trim uniform that enlisted U.S. Navy WAVES will wear this winter. The smartly styled, comfortable uniforms are in the traditional "Navy blue" with a soft rolled brim hat. Women between the ages twenty and thirty-six with a high school education or its business school equivalent are eligible, providing they meet physical and aptitude requirements. After training, they will receive rating and pay commensurate with their experience and ability. The pay, incidentally, will be exactly the same as that for men in the same rating, plus allowances. The Navy particularly desires women trained as general clerks, secretaries, stenographers, duplicating machine operators, typists, file clerks, bookkeepers, warehouse clerks, stock clerks, radio operators, teletype operators, simplex and multiplex operators. Some, too, will be trained as aviation machinists mates, gunner's mates and for torpedo maintenance

6,750 airplanes equal 15 Battleships--Cook. Washington, D.C., Feb. 25. Testifying before the House Naval Affairs Committee today, Rear Admiral Arthur B. Cook, Chief of the Navy Department Bureau of Aeronautics, declared that it would take 6,750 airplanes to give the same volume of fire in one hour of 15 battleships. The cost of the 6,750 planes would be approximately seven times that of the 15 battleships if replacement requirements of the airplanes were considered, 2/25/38

War ration book no. 3. This new ration book, replacement for present books when their stamps are used up, will be distributed during the early summer. It contains four pages of "point" stamps, similar to the point stamps in war ration book 2, though slightly different in design and printed in brown ink. It also contains four pages of "unit" stamps for the type of rationing now used for sugar, coffee, and shoes. Each page of fourty-eight stamps bears the design of a different war machine, including guns, tanks, aircraft carriers and planes. One of each of these stamps is reproduced separately below the picture of the book. Important note: Actual dimensions of the point ration stamps are 7/8 inch x 1 inch, while the unit stamps are 7/16 inch x 1 inch. The U.S. Secret Service requests that ration stamps not be reproduced in actual size, but less than 3/4 or over 1 1/2 times. Also, stamps should not be reproduced in color. This photograph, if reproduced, same size, meets these requirements
