Shopping for victory with war bonds. This is what one war bond buys. This is the celebrated fishing kit with which every Navy lifeboat is equipped. Experience of Eddie Rickenbacker and others showed how these kits could provide the means of saving lives at sea. The $18.75 that buys a $25 war bond will pay for three of these kits

Workers on Rickenbacker rescue boat. How mileage rationing can save lives on the battlefronts was pointed up dramatically by Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, who with six members of his crew were rescued after three weeks adrift on life rafts in the Pacific. "One tire that is not wasted on pleasure driving may save the lives of seven men as ours was saved," Rickenbacker said. One old rubber tire is sufficient to make a three-man raft of the type that saved the party in the Pacific

Workers on Rickenbacker rescue boat. A life raft built by Mrs. May E. Thompson and Robert S. Barnhart and six members of his crew drifted for three weeks in the Pacific before being picked up. Said Barnhart, when informed of the part they had played in the rescue, "it makes a fellow mighty happy to know that something he has done in the war effort has really cashed in"

Aircraft warning service. Mrs. E.V. Rickenbacker (second from left) watches as a group of volunteer airplane plotters at a filter center push markers into place. Recruited by the Office of Civilian Defense, the volunteers work in shifts of four to five hours, often coming to the center after a day's work at the office. The plotters report every second or third day, contributing many hours to their work than involved in less exacting civilian defense operations

Workers on Rickenbacker rescue boat. They played a part in the rescue of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and six men of his crew in the Pacific. Elmer K. Brown and Flossie Anson, of Akron, Ohio, built one of the two life rafts on which the party drifted for three weeks. Miss Anson, who has been continuously at work on boats and ballons for the past six years, said "it certainly was a worthwhile thrill and satisfaction to know that we had a share in the making of the boats which effected the rescue of the Rickenbacker party"
