U.S. expert on crop insurance. Washington, D.C., Sept. 21. Considered by agriculture leaders to be the nation's foremost authority on crop insurance, Roy M. Green is now in charge of Division of Agriculture Finance, U.S. Department of Agriculture. 48 years old, Green is a Native of Missouri and a graduate of the U. of Missouri. After teaching Agriculture Economics at his alma mater for a few years he transferred to the Kansas State Agriculture College at Manhattan, Kans., to teach the same subject. In 1934 he was named Vice-President of the Production Credit Corporation at Wichita, a branch of the Farm Credit Administration. Coming to Washington with the Farm Credit Administration in 1935 Green's ability as a crop insurance expert was recognized by Secretary Wallace, who drafted him for his present post. 9/21/37

U.S. Crop reporting service celebrates 75th anniversary. Washington, D.C., May 12. Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace led the leading agriculturists of the country today in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the United States Crop Reporting Service. Inaugurated by Isaac Newton, first commissioner of U.S. Agriculture, in May 1863 and based on reports from less that 2000 crop correspondents, the U.S. Crop Reporting service has grown until now it numbers more than 200,000 crop and livestock reporters, supplying information monthly or oftener to the board. Wallace, right, presenting the Meyer Medal for distinguished services in plant introduction to David Fairchild, Veteran Plant Explorer of the United States Department of Agriculture. The Secretary made the award on behalf of the American Genetic Association, the Trustees of the Medal. Following the presentation, Secretary Wallace out-lined the distinguished services of Dr. Fairchild during his 50 year's association with the department of Agriculture. Senate Banking and Currency Committee hears Secretary Wallace. Washington, D.C., June 7. Secretary of Agriculture, Henry Wallace, today told the Senate Banking and Currency Committee that he approved the bill to revamp the Farm Credit System because farmers need relief from 'excessive interest charges and debts which they cannot pay. In addition,' he said, '60 percent of all the National Farm Loan Associations have had their capitol so impaired that they cannot make new loans. Beyond question there is room for improvement in both the general farm credit situation and the Federal Land Bank System'

"Administration propaganda halts rise in prices of farm commodities." Washington, D.C. June 7. Speaking before the Senate Agriculture Committee today, Seantor Elmer Thomas of Oklahoma, assailed "propaganda" by administration officials which he said has worked to halt the rise in prices of farm commodities. He placed in the records copies of speeches by Secretary Wallace, Dr. Mordecai Ezekiel and Leon Henderson, government economists, which Thomas said, urged "Keeping Prices Low". 6/7/37

Representatives of six major commodity exchanges today conferred with Department of Agriculture officials on methods of preventing so-called commodity counselors from defrauding the public through promises of extra-ordinary profits. Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Harry L. Brown is pictured as he laid before the group recommendations of Secretary Wallace for "vigorous action" to discourage brokerage houses from accepting business from certain types of commodity counselors.
