Teachers shock students at George Washington U. Washington, D.C., Aug. 2. Public speaking students at G.W. U. are only too well acquainted with the shocking machine, invented by Dr. Willard Hayes Yeager, Head of the department, to take the "ahs" "ers" and "ums" out of their diction. He is shown putting on the shocker to Jane Hampton, 17. When the student makes a mistake the professor at the other end of the room, notifies her by a gentle electric shock, 8/2/38

American Red Cross nurse in a town near the front visiting the French women whose humble house was seriously damaged by a Boche bomb. When the explosion took place these two women were in the room on the left, which was practically untouched. The room on the right was wrecked. Besides losing their home, the mind of the elderly lady was turned by the shock. The next morning while the American Red Cross representatives were visiting her, this unfortunate old soul went about the garden picking up timbers and dropping them again in the same place where she found them, thing to tidy things. Though crazed by the shock she picked her way through the little garden and picked a choice bouquet for the American Red Cross nurse who is seen in the picture holding them in her hand. The bomb spent itself in the soft earth of the garden. Otherwise both of these women would have been blown to atoms. The American Red Cross physician is seen standing in the bomb hole
