This mother of six children left Lille, Dec. 25, 1917, arriving in the department of Charente-Inferieure a month later. They spent the bitterest cold of the year in Belgium, the Germans would not give them any coal and the mother was forced to go about in the night, so that the Germans wouldn't see her, gathering here and there little pieces of wood wherever she could find them. The mother of this delicate little boy died of a painful illness during the bombardment of Poperinghe, after which her six children were left to themselves and obliged to beg for food in the streets. Little Nestor came to Paris on July 31, 1915, with 50 refugee children from the North, all of whom were received by the Comite Franco-Americain pour la Protection des Enfants de la Frontiere. Nestor was suffering from ricketts and was too weak to stand or walk. He has an excellent mentality and a small body which wins all hearts. Though slow, his physical improvement is perceptible. He is at Le Jonchere, the Senatorium of the Committee, which is under the special protection of Mrs. Robert Woods Bliss
