Making sphagnum-moss surgical dressings at one of the branch stations of the American Red Cross workrooms in Southsea, England. The moss for these dressings is gathered by women volunteer workers in Scotland, and then shipped free of charge by the English railroads, to the various American Red Cross workrooms, to be made up into dressings and sterilized. This branch at The Branch of Southsea, is in charge of Mrs. Slade Baker of Philadelphia

Brooks of Cleveland is shaking hands with Captain Winsor B. Day of Springfield, Massachusetts. Captain Brooks (in front of Red Cross flag) is in charge of entertainments for the American wounded in the handsome Red Cross theater at the great Portsmouth hospital, run by a medical unit from Albany, N.Y.
