Steel manufacture, Allegheny-Ludlum. Scrap from areas near the steel mill is delivered by motor truck. The melting of alloy steel for defense production necessitates constant delivery of scrap iron and steel to the mills. The overhead magnet will deposit the steel in a loader, which then carries it to an open hearth or electric furnace. In the neighborhood of forty percent of all steel produced comes from scrap metal

A poster comes to life. "Never got so close to one of these babies before" says George Woolslayer (right) giving an army jeep the once-over. At the post where Sergeant French L. This scrap will be charged into steel converters once again, and again will emerge as refined steel for industrial production. A poster comes to life. The middle man in the poster looks at his image mounted on a wall at Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporation, wonders what the other two fellows are like, and where they are these days. George Woolslayer, thirty-two-year-old welder, was chosen as a model for this poster when an Office of War Information photographer visited the plant in the fall of 1941. His interest in the soldier and sailor prompted him to write OWI (Office of War Information) asking for information on the servicemen. Result: furloughs wer obtained for the two, who came to the steel mill and saw that "Men Working Together" is the formula by which American soldiers, sailors and workers will win this war.
