Circleville, Ohio's "Hooverville" (see general caption). Begins to talk: "No man in the United States had the trouble I had since 1931. No man. Don't talk to me. I'm deaf. I lost my farm in 1931. I went to work in an acid factory. I got acid spilt on me; burnt my nose and made me blind. Then I get those awful headaches. I've been to lots of doctors, but that doesn't help me. They come on at sundown. No man in the United States had the trouble I had since 1931." (This last repeated many times through his talking.) "No man. It must be getting on to 6 o'clock now. My head's beginning to pain."

Migrant camp, Weslaco, Texas. Local employment men say that there was no need for migrant labor to handle the citrus and vegetable crops in the valley, the local supply of labor being ample for this purpose. Most of the local labor is Mexican and the labor contractors favor Mexican labor over white labor, partly because the Mexican will work much cheaper than whites. One white woman who was a permanent resident (her husband was on WPA (Works Progress Administration/Work Projects Administration) said that the white people who lived in the valley, had no trouble with the Mexicans. The Mexicans were good neighbors, she said, always willing to share what they had. She said the white migrants who came into the valley and resented and misunderstood the Mexicans caused the trouble between the two races. Some towns in this section permit camping only in trailers. The charge for camping in tents is about fifty cents per week, including water, which in some cases must be carried four city blocks. Privies are tin, very bad condition. Garbage is collected only once a week, with large dumps of decaying fruits and vegetables scattered among the camps. Some of the white migrants in this camp were very suspicious of governmental activity, due to the use by south Texas newspapers of the term "concentration camps" referring to FSA (Farm Security Administration) camps

America's youth builds and flies model planes on miniature flying fields. This young mechanic, equipped with a well-fitted tool kit, goes after engine trouble in his model plane. Like millions of other boys, he is vitally interested in aero-modelling, and is learning in his home workshop principles of aeronautical engineering which he will put to good use in the air-minded post-war world. Young model plane builders recently turned out 800,000 scale model airplanes for use by the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, and civilian defense groups to train their personnel to recognize hostile and friendly aircraft. The models, which were built in a scale of one to seventy-two, were representations of all types of aircraft used by the United Nations and the enemy

Scalp [?] demanded by seaman's union. Washington, D.C., Oct. 26. The ouster of Dan S. Ring, (above) personnel officer of the Maritime Commission, and Joseph P. Kennedy, Chairman, has been demanded in a resolution sent President Roosevelt by the Baltimore Branch of the National Maritime Union. The demand is the outcome of the Maritime Commission's action in helping to end a seaman's strike aboard the steamer Algic, a Government-owned boat currently at Montevideo. Chairman Kennedy ordered the Algic Mutineers put in Irons at the time of Montevideo trouble. Ring is accused of "prejudice and bias" toward the Union. Ring, a former Washington newspaperman, was a WPA official in New York City until his appointment to the Maritime Commission. 10/26/37

They come on at sundown. No man in the United States had the trouble I had since 1931." (This last repeated many times through his talking.) "No man. It must be getting on to 6 o'clock now.
