Chinese Ambassador expresses regret to U.S. for bombing of liner President Hoover. Washington, D.C. Aug. 31. Chinese Ambassador C.T. Wang arriving at the State Department today where he conveyed to Secretary Hull the "profound regret" of the Chinese Government for the accidental bombing of the Dollar Liner President Hoover, and offered to make immediate redress. Under instructions from his government at Nanking, Wang told Hull that the President Hoover was hit by a Chinese aviator who mistook it for a Japanese transport. 8/31/37

Wang, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, reading to newsmen today a statement in which he charged that the Japanese Army in China has placed itself "beyond the pale of humanity" by indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas, destruction of Chinese Red Cross units an the use of poison gas.
